Wolves, the Taiga & Minecraft
New Favorite book alert! Wild Rescuers, Guardians of the Taiga has taken our home by storm!
The book arrived in Zenna's latest Literati box with the promise of animals, adventure and Minecraft! Zenna was on me quick: "Mom, Can we read"? With maps, a girl in the wild cared for by endearing wolves who rescue animals in danger and Minecraft, we quickly dived in. At first it was just two chapters a day, which quickly became four. Both kids fully hooked. Then they found the Taiga on Minecraft! A full day adventuring the Taiga on Minecraft ensued! Which was followed by a full rest day from the screens (their choice!) ...where we nearly finished book 1, did I mention it's a series ~ Yay!
This morning we finished the book {kinda sad} and ordered the next one. Stacy Plays, the author and YouTube star provided links to her channel at the end of the book where we found her series Minecraft Field Trips. Again, we were all engaged as we virtually toured the Taiga of Northern Minnesota with Stacy. It was pretty cute to watch her wander through the Taiga (with a naturalist!) and find and Moss Covered Rocks, spruce trees, mushrooms; all of which she related to from her experience with Minecraft. Once they found their way back from the adventure (they got a little lost), she met with a Geocaching expert and we got lots of answers to all our wonderings about those geocaching 'things' we sometimes find in wild spaces. The Plus being, we might have to give GeoCaching a try with GPS units!
Confession; so I had NO IDEA that the coordinates of the Taiga, in Minecraft, were the actual coordinates, latitude and longitude, of our own blue/green biome ~ eARTh!!! Two points for all those UnSchoolingMama's who said Minecraft is a learning experience and screens aren't too awful. I'm listening ...and learning!
Now on to National Geographic's Most Dangerous Animals of Australia! (TV14)
