This is where you’ll find the month-to-month rhythm of my creative practice. Each update offers a look at what I’ve been working on— some finished pieces, works in progress, or little glimpses behind the scenes. Sometimes there’s a big inspiration to share, other times just a quiet favorite or two. It’s an evolving space, always refreshed with what’s new and what’s next ✨

A Return to the Land
This month took me back to my roots—the northernmost stretch of Appalachia, in New York State, where my grandparents once homesteaded. It’s a place that holds both deep beauty and deep sadness: rolling hills and wild land, abandoned homes and quiet stories. I spent time with family there, feeling close to the land that shaped them, and, in many ways, me too. I’ll share a few glimpses of that trip here: images of art, loss, and the landscape I carry with me.

Desert Adventures: The Salt River and Spring Inspiration
April is a transformative time of year—around here, the snow might still be dumping, or the land could already be drying out, hinting at the coming spring. For me, it’s the perfect time to head to the desert, where the air warms, the sun shines bright, and the landscape bursts into a refreshing display of life. This spring, I did just that, embarking on a journey down the Salt River—a bold, wild river cutting through one of the most biodiverse deserts in the world.
The Sonoran Desert has always held a special place in my heart. The botanist / ecologist in me can’t help but marvel at its richness. It’s a place where saguaro cacti stretch skyward like ancient sentinels, delicate wildflowers splash the sands with color, and unexpected greenery—like ferns and watercress—thrives in surprising abundance.
On the river, you get to witness it all. Our group—a motley crew of adventurous friends from all walks of life—spent a week immersed in this vibrant world. Rafting the Salt River is not for the faint of heart, but it’s an incredible way to experience the desert.
Being out there, surrounded by the intense sun, the rushing ((and sometime frozen) water, and the blooming desert, fills me with a sense of aliveness and creativity that’s hard to put into words.
The Salt River reminded me, once again, of how deeply the experience of a place can shape what I create. It’s more than an adventure; it’s a dialogue with the world around me, a way of translating the raw, wild beauty of the desert.
March 2024
March was a month of refining and expanding my artistic endeavors. Building on the foundations of February in Jehane’s Your Creative Gold class, I polished my color illustrations, created two striking hero patterns, and developed a series of coordinating and blender patterns. I was pleased to compile these designs into a comprehensive presentation board, showcasing the results of my hard work.
Alongside this, I continued participating in Jehane's Golden Thread Instagram challenge, which kept my creative fire burning with weekly prompts and a supportive global community of artists.
February 2024
February was a creatively rich month, filled with new opportunities and artistic growth. I kicked off the month with an incredible class taught by the talented Jehane from the UK. The class, Your Creative Gold, brought together students from around the world, fostering a supportive and inspiring community. This month we started off by addressing the What’s and Why’s of our artistry. Then we moved into prompts, I chose Life on Earth, and specifically Crested Butte’s Curious Wildflowers. First I created a mood board and then some scribbly sketches, then onto line drawings, and started my colorful illustrations. The class continued into March.
In addition, I participated in Jehane's Golden Thread Instagram challenge, focusing on the story of Tokyo Story. Each week, I eagerly worked on a new prompt, pushing my creativity to new heights. I'm thrilled to share my February artistic journey with you!

July 2023
This month I’ve been in rejuvenation mode. For me that means spending as much time in nature as I can; from gardening & wildflower adoration to rafting, to mountain biking, hiking and camping. And, Oh My!, the quest for the wildest swimming holes is ON!
…and I am published in Uppercase!!!
I opened my shop, Paper Otter, on Go Imagine, a new non-profit online marketplace. It’s a platform I can believe in as all of it’s profits benefit children in need and it’s all direct from artist, handmade items ~ think Etsy during the dot com boom.
Check it out:
