Watercolor frog that I painted later on that day, after catching frogs ~ well, after trying to catch frogs 🐸 😅 🐸

As things speed up in the springtime, my urge to slow down and savor the moment increases …and then I remember that stepping in and spending time with children, walking in their way, is just the medicine I’m seeking.

Trying to see life through the eyes of a child, I recently went frog hunting with my kids and their friends. Before I knew it, time had slipped away. Gone were the stresses and pressures of modern life and in it’s place a renewed and refreshed connection, not just with my kids and their friends, but also with nature and myself.

This tiny pond, on Silt Island, was teeming with life! Pollywogs, frogs of all stages, snakes, swallowtails, redwing blackbirds and even a bald eagle. When I stepped into the pond 2 or 3 frogs would dart this way and that. I’d stare into the water until I found it’s inhabitants …waterbugs, frogs and snakes - yikes!

I was reassured though, to be immersed in life this way. We weren’t actually able to catch any of the big frogs, with their bluish back legs which, I think, indicates mating season. …and well, it is springtime! But, we sure had a good time trying.

I love stopping by here to stretch my legs and walk my dog on the long drive out west. It’s just off i-70. But, I’ll definitely be sure to have Archie, my dog, on a leash next time. We almost lost him to the Colorado River in the spring runoff waters when he slipped in while getting a drink of water. After a frantic search Mike found him in the thorny bushes in the tiniest eddy after Archie gave a rare “yip”. Ask him about it sometime next time you see us around.
